The Alps see 30% less #snowfall than a century ago

A third less snow is falling in the Alps than 100 years ago.

Scientists gathered snowfall data from between 1920 and 2020 at 46 Alpine locations from Switzerland to Slovenia and discovered that average Alpine snowfall has plummeted by 34% in 100 years.

The drop in snow levels is a serious problem. From feeding glaciers and replenishing water reserves to its essential role in the region’s skiing and tourism sectors, snow is vital to both the environment and the economy.

Community Efforts: A Case Study

Our HFS members have taken a significant step by creating school nutrition gardens in government schools across Ghaziabad. These gardens now enrich the nutrition of students in over 50 viable schools. Such community initiatives prove that together, we can make a difference.

Gardening Tips for the Season

Flowering Plants

Annuals: Continue feeding with bio enzymes, humic acids, or bio Vita. Stop pinching plants by mid-January to ensure blooms.

Frost Protection: Use sikri screens, plastic sheets, or move pots to sheltered areas.

Sweet Peas: Remove tendrils and tips for bushier growth.

Chrysanthemums: As blooms fade, sort plants by color and variety. Treat with liquid manure for robust shoots.

Foliage Plants

Keep watering minimal as plants remain dormant. Protect delicate varieties from cold winds and frost.

Vegetables

Continue cultivating, irrigating, and feeding with a mix of sarson khali and neem khali.

Seed Sowing: The first fortnight of January is ideal for sowing lettuce, carrots, beets, turnips, and radish. Start summer seeds like gourds and melons in protective environments.

Get areas ready for summer flowering annuals and place seed orders early Like Zinnia, Cosmos, Sunflower, Gomphrena, celosia,Kochia.Etc.

Bulbs

Bulbs of Amaryllis stored in the dark can now be planted in nutrient-rich soil or pots.

Tuberoses , caladium, eucharis, nerine , football lily, day lilies should be procured to be planted in February.

Fruits

Dig around fruit trees, aerate the roots for two days, and refill with a mix of cow dung, bone meal, nitrogen, phosphorus, potash, and micronutrients.

Pruning Tips:

For peaches, prune one-year-old shoots.

Trim banana suckers, citrus branches, and grapevines to maintain healthy growth.

Spray flowering trees with bio enzymes or seaweed solutions to prevent flower and fruit fall.

Urban gardening is not just about growing plants but about fostering a connection with nature. By sharing the fruits of your labor with helpers, neighbors, and friends, you strengthen community bonds while promoting sustainability.

ह्यूमिक एसिड के उपयोग और लाभ

ह्यूमिक एसिड के फायदे

• मिट्टी की गुणवत्ता में सुधार: उर्वरता बढ़ाता और पोषक तत्वों का अवशोषण बढ़ाता है।
• पौधों का विकास: जड़ प्रणाली मजबूत करता और अंकुरण दर में सुधार करता है।
• जल धारण क्षमता: मिट्टी की नमी बनाए रखता और जल उपयोग दक्षता बढ़ाता है।
• तनाव सहनशीलता: सूखा और लवणता जैसे तनावों से पौधों की रक्षा करता है।
• पर्यावरणीय स्थिरता: सिंथेटिक उर्वरकों की जरूरत कम करके टिकाऊ कृषि में मदद करता है।
• जैविक गतिविधि: मिट्टी में माइक्रोबियल गतिविधि को बढ़ावा देता है।

ह्यूमिक एसिड का उपयोग

1. मिट्टी में मिलाकर:

1 लीटर ह्यूमिक एसिड प्रति एकड़ उपयोग करें।

ड्रिप सिंचाई या उर्वरकों के साथ मिलाएं।

2. पर्णीय छिड़काव:

2-3 मिली/लीटर पानी में मिलाकर फूल आने से पहले मासिक छिड़काव करें।

3. बीज उपचार:

10 मिली/किग्रा बीज को पानी में 1 घंटे भिगोकर लगाएं।

तैयारी विधि (स्थानीय उपाय)

2 वर्ष पुराने गोबर के कंडे, 25-30 लीटर पानी और 50 लीटर ड्रम में मिलाएं।

7 दिन ढककर रखें और फिर छानकर तैयार घोल का उपयोग करें।

ह्यूमिक एसिड का नियमित उपयोग बेहतर फसल उत्पादन और मिट्टी के स्वास्थ्य के लिए बेहद फायदेमंद है।

नर्सरी से पौधे खरीदते समय इन बातों का जरूर ध्यान रखें :-

■ आप जो भी पौधे खरीदे उस पर नए पत्ते आ रहें, यह जरूर जांच लें, इससे पता चलता हैं कि पौधा ग्रोथ कर रहा हैं या नही।

■ जिस पौधे की पत्तियां हल्की मुरझाई, किनारे से सूखी, कटी-फटी, कीड़े द्वारा खाई हो या पीली पड़ रही हो तो उसे बिल्कुल भी ना खरीदें।

■ हमेशा छोटे पौधे खरीदें क्योंकि उनका विकास तेजी से होता हैं और उनकी कीमत भी बड़े पौधे की अपेक्षा कम होती हैं। आप इनको काट-छांटकर मनचाहा शेप भी दे सकते हैं, लेकिन बड़े पौधों के साथ ऐसा करना संभव नहीं होता हैं।

■ ग्राफ्टिंग वाले पौधे खरीदते समय इस बात का ध्यान दें कि ग्राफ्टेड एरिया मिट्टी से 4 से 6 इंच ऊपर हो। ग्राफ्टेड एरिया मिट्टी के पास होने से पौधे में इन्फेक्शन लगने का खतरा रहता हैं।

■ जिस गमले या ग्रो-बैग में नीचे से एक से ज्यादा पौधे निकले हो तो ऐसे पौधे को चुनें। जिन्हें बाद में अलग करके एक से ज्यादा पौधे तैयार कर सकते हैं।

■ जिस पौधे पर सिर्फ एक या दो ब्रांचेस निकली हो तो उनकी जगह ज्यादा ब्रांचेस वाला पौधा पसंद करें क्योंकि ऐसे पौधे जल्दी घना होते हैं।

■ अगर फल वाले पौधे खरीद रहे हैं, तो ग्राफ्टिड पौधे खरीदें। इस पर फल और फूल जल्दी आते हैं।

■ लताओं या कुछ नाजुक तने वाले पौधों को सपोर्ट की जरूरत होती हैं इसलिए नर्सरी वाले उन्हें लकड़ी के सहारे बांध देते हैं। पौधा खरीदते समय उसके बांधने के निशान को चेक करें। कई बार पौधे को इतनी सख्ती से बांधा जाता हैं कि बांधने वाली जगह से तना कमजोर होकर सूखने लगता हैं, इसलिए पौधे खरीदने से पहले यह निशान जरूर चेक करें।

■ अगर लंबे समय तक सीजनल फूलों का लुत्फ उठाना चाहते हैं तो हमेशा नन्हीं कलियों से भरा पौधा खरीदें। अक्सर कुछ लोग फूलों से भरा पौधा खरीद लाते हैं। ऐसी गलती कभी ना करें, जिन पौधों से पहले से ही ज्यादा फूल लगे होते हैं बाद में उन पर फूल खिलने की संभावना खत्म हो जाती हैं।

■ पत्तियों को पलटकर ध्यान से देखें क्योंकि कई बार उनके पीछे बारीक कीड़े लगे होते हैं। तने का वह हिस्सा जहां से पत्तियां पनपती हैं उसे भी अच्छी तरह से जांच लें। कई बार वहां भी सफेद या काले रंग का पाउडर जैसा कुछ पदार्थ जमा होता हैं। यह एक तरह का फंगस होता हैं, जो कुछ दिनों के बाद पूरे पौधे को नष्ट कर देता हैं।

■ पौधा खरीदते समय इस बात का ध्यान दें कि ग्रो-बैग या गमले के ड्रेनेज होल से पौधे की जड़े बाहर निकल रही हैं तो ऐसा पौधा बिल्कुल भी ना खरीदे। क्योंकि ऐसे पौधों में रूट राॅट की समस्या हैं।

■ सीजनल पौधे खरीदते समय इस बात का ध्यान दें कि प्लांट ओवर डेट नहीं हो रहा हैं क्योंकि सीजन खत्म होने के बाद पौधे कुछ समय बाद सूखने लगते हैं।

■ अगर आप गार्डनिंग में बिल्कुल नए हैं तो ऐसे पौधे जिनकी कीमत और मेंटनेंस दोनों ज्यादा हो, उसे खरीदने से बचे।

■ प्लांट्स की शॉपिंग किसी अच्छी नर्सरी से करें क्योंकि वे ग्राहकों का विश्वास खोना नहीं चाहते और उन्हें स्वस्थ पौधे देते हैं। प्लांट्स खरीदते समय अगर आप इन छोटी-छोटी बातों का ध्यान रखेंगे तो आपको उचित कीमत पर स्वस्थ पौधे मिल जाएंगे, आपका गार्डन हमेशा हरा-भरा रहेगा।
